Megapolis2022

Megapolis2022 festival is going to be opened in Vanha ylioppilastalo in the heart of Helsinki, Saturday 13.10. This time the main subject of this event particularly about consumption. People guing to discuss global environmental issues, about the role of consumer and urban development. For a day Vanha ylioppilastalo will be filled with seminars, urban art installations and documentaries.
“Whatever the choices we make on a daily basis have a big cumulative effect, either negative or positive. While mass consumerism still dominates, new trends with quality products and experiences and different values are developing and growing. How will the new urban consumerism change the world?”
The day opens at 11.00 with a presentation by HeHe, a Paris based art and design partnership set up in 1999 by Helen Evans and Heiko Hansen (this presentation is in English).
In the main seminar of Dodo ry Kirsi Piha, Maria Veitola, Risto Penttilä, Ilona Hyötyläinen, Riitta Nieminen-Sundell, Osmo Soininvaara and Father Mitro will talk over their consumption. Solutions for sustainable consumption are introduced by Tuomas Toivonen, Liisa Jokinen, Alex Nieminen and the Speaker of the Parliament Sauli Niinistö.
City is the focus of the seminar organised by Oranssi ry. Thoughts about urban space and living are presented by Silvia Modig, Tuomas “Stuba” Nikula, Touko Renko sekä Maija Anttila.
The climax of Megapolis2022 is club with dj Makelove, dj Rideon as well as bands Maria Gasolina, Trio Tetris and RinneRadio. There is also storytelling from far-away urban places around the Urban Camp Fire.

[…] A couple of events taking place now Megapolis2022 (via) and Hernesaari scheme proposals (via). Megapolis 2022 is an urban environmental festival and seems like a growing event, the premise is right, that our current environmental problems will be solved in the cities. On Saturday 13th October, there will be a debate about the role of the consumer in this. With the Hernesaari scheme the City of Helsinki Plannng Department is opening up a little to the outside world. Until 21.10.2007 you can look at the different scheme proposals from Anttila & Rusanen, Brunow & Manula, and Helin & Co and comment on them.
