NORTH [2003]: retrospective
This great project has place in 2003, but it deserves NDB reader’s attention today. North [2003] exhibition was formed by photographs taken by UK photographer Luke Harby in Finland, Lapland and Norway during June 2003.
Luke Harby wrote in exhibition press release:
At this time of year daylight is present for 24 hours. Some of the images were taken at midnight or in the early hours of the morning. The show comprises 21 large colour photographs which all measure 24″ x 20″.
The images are very formal and border on the abstract. Rendered in sumtuous colours, they are predominantly photographs of landscapes, which try and capture the austerity of Northern Scandinavia, as well as interiors, many from architecturally significant buildings.
The subsequent production of the photographs could only have been possible thanks to a generous grant from the Arts Council England. The photographs were exhibited at the Roadmender Gallery:
