Interview with Uzi Varon

This time our guest is famous photographer Uzi Varon. His clients are well known such Arnold’s Coffee Shop, Maku Magazine, designer Marja Suna and many advertising agencies. People love his fine sense of style and balance in his photographs.
Beside of commercial works he takes very impressive conceptual pictures.
I wrote recently short article about his exhibition Double Exposure that has place in Caisa International Cultural Centre in Helsinki, where only his creative images are shown.
Uzi was so friendly to answer to few our questions:
NDB: Hi Uzi, First of how do you satisfied with your show in Caisa center?
Caisa center was the right choice for this project. The space of the gallery is interesting and large enough for one man show. Only not very easy to find!
All in all I am pretty pleased with it.
NDB: Where do you get your inspiration from?
My inspiration is greatly affected by travels. Mainly to desert lands and other less visited places. People I meet on the way, few friends and a life long companion (my wife). Oh yes, books have their fair share too..
NDB: Tell us about your favorite work you done?
I do commercial and editorial photography for living. But sure the images that I do on my free time are the most important to me. The latest project “Double Exposure” is by far my favorite collection of works.

NDB: This is a popular question that we ask our favorites. What are the top three songs currently on your playlist?
Spanish guitar artist Vicente Amigo
“The Project” by Idan Reichel
Jan Garbarek
Putting just 3 songs wouldn`t be fair, nor just a few artists but these
three got my best attention lately.
NDB: What is your favorite drink?
Good coffee in the morning will always do. On special occasions it can be accompanied with brandy (not in the mornings though).
NDB: Can you point to three Photographers/Designers which creations you love?
Irving Penn
Sebastiao Salgado
Henri Cartier-Bresson
These 3 are on the top of a long list.
NDB: Finally Uzi, any words of wisdom for our Nordic Design Blog readers?
live the day, look for tomorrow and remember the past.
NDB: Thank you, Uzi, and we wish you inspiration in your creative work!

Beauty and good taste are not dead! Uzi Varon is the real thing in an art world filled with poseurs–a truly great talent. Seeing the photographs on his website inspires one to look at the ordinary things around them, and Varon’s portrait gallery is a Who’s Who of Finland! Thanks, Igor, for directing me to this interview.
