Colmio is a design company that brings the world products that are cosy and comfortable. Colmio products have three main attributes: movement, simplicity and use of space.
The name Colmio ressembles a Finnish language word "Kolmio", which stands for triangle. Triangural shapes can be seen in most of Colmio products.
Colmio also has an art gallery/café in Oulu, so if you happen to be there, pay them a visit.
In the pictures you can see some examples of their Grasshopper selection.

A real butterfly has been inserted into the huge masonite presses to create a permanent organic decoration embedded in the masonite hardboard.
All materials derive from only 92 natural elements. How can we create new forms of expression by combining materials in new ways?
Can we create new sensations by adding organic materials to granulates, fibres and pulps?
Over the centuries artefacts have come to represent the materials of their own era.
How do we add new value to traditional down-to-earth materials such as masonite and paper? What will be the result if we combine them in new ways?
Design: FOLKFORM

Shoe designer Julia Lundsten (b. 1975) and designer Janne Kyttänen (b. 1974) have been awarded Design Forum Finland's Young Designer of the Year 2007 prize.
The awarded designers have both received their design training abroad – Julia Lundsten in London and Janne Kyttänen in Barcelona and Amsterdam. Lundsten established her shoe-design company FINSK in London, and Kyttänen the Freedom of Creation company in Amsterdam. Based on the designers' strong personal conception of design and intelligent insight into design and methods of manufacturing, these companies display international promise in both content and business skills.
The award jury noted that Julia Lundsten and Janne Kyttänen represent the best of Finland's internationally oriented young designers. Through their bold decisions and uncompromising work they are deepening the diversity of design and expanding its international character. At the same time, they express in their works the traditions of Finnish design – clarity and pure lines without ignoring a playful light touch.
The members of the jury were CEO Mikko Kalhama, Design Forum Finland, and curator Jukka Savolainen, Design Museum Helsinki.
Previous recipients of the prize are designers Harri Koskinen and Ilkka Suppanen (2000), interior architect Karola Sahi and architect Eeva Lithovius (2001), designer and cabinetmaker Tuuli Autio and designer and silversmith Pyry Tamminen (2002), graphic designers Antti Hinkula and Teemu Suviala (2005) and industrial designer Jukka Korpihete and furniture designer Mikko Paakkanen (2006).

Alan Lishness, one of contributors of Nordic Design photo pool on flickr posted recently this nice history article about Fiskars company, simply must read:
“My friend, Petri , and I shot in the small town of Fiskars, Finland, located aproximately 100 Km from Helsinki. The cutlery company bearing its name was incorporated in 1649 by a Dutch merchant who had been granted a charter to establish a blast furnace and forge there. Today, Fiskars (the company) is widely regarded for the contemporary quality of its tools, and Fiskars (the community) is a thriving premium arts and crafts center. ‘Fiskars Fire Station‘ on black”

Ten Swedish Designers was founded in 1970, when a group of ten young textile artists and designers joined together. They had a previous collective experience of having their designs rejected by the Swedish textile industry, with motivations asserting that their designed patterns were “unsaleable, too advanced and non-commercial”.
The aim of Ten Swedish Designers was for the designers themselves to take active part and control the entire production process, from the initial sketch to the printed fabric on display in the shop.
Since the start in 1970 Ten Swedish Designers have presented more than 30 successful collections comprising of some 600 printed fabrics and wallpapers. The group has exhibited at a large number of museums, in Sweden and throughout the world.

Dekka is a daybed where two design traditions integrates in one furniture.
FurnID has chosen to let the Danish design tradition meet with the Arab and the result is a minimalistic daybed by the name Dekka.
