IDENTIFIED YAY!
It took some hardcore googling but I’ve identified my mystery vase. Googling the markings, though I tried all possible terms, got me nowhere and I was a little down about it. I loved the vase so I didn’t care if it wasn’t special. But I’d had a hunch, and there is nothing more disappointing than an unfounded hunch.
So I started the long work of trawling through the websites of stores that specialize in vintage glassware, where I eventually came across a vase that, while not identical, had markings in a similar style. With the names ‘Smalandshyttan’ and ‘Josef Schott’ as my buzzwords I finally identified my vase through some further googling. It’s a Swedish piece from the 1960s worth around a hundred dollars. I paid one dollar at my favorite thrift.
It’s nice to know I wasn’t imagining its quality, but more importantly, I love the little guy!
