M.A.R.I.N. Call for Proposals Nordic – Baltic Sea Residencies for Art and Science

Media Art Research Interdisciplinary Network – M.A.R.I.N. – will organize two one month long residencies during June and August 2011 around the Baltic Sea. We invite proposals by artists, scientists or collaborative initiatives to attend either for June or August 2011. While we are open to many ideas, we hope to get research-oriented proposals that relate with the marine environment. Also projects that look at alternative energy in a nomadic camp, environmental sensors, low power computing are on our wish-list. (In other words, no poetic videos contemplating the sea!)

The June residency themed Sensing the Baltic Sea (June 1st-30th) will be situated on three Baltic Sea islands in Finland and end in Tallinn, Estonia. On each island there are basic facilities, and we will set up our own camp using wind and solar power.

The August residency, themed Cartography and Everyday at Sea (August 1st-31st) will start in Stavanger in Norway, shift to an island in Sweden and finish on a beautiful peninsula in Lithuania.

CALL OPEN FEB 26th – MAR 21st 2011

This plaque is handpainted. The design is from Inger Waage. Yes, I found this plaque in……. The Nederlands in a secondhand shop! I immediately fell in love with the design and colours. Although I bought it in The Netherlands, the plaque is a reminder of my holidays in Denmark.

Does anyone know if the plaque is Stavangerflint? And is it an old one?

Cover for the Swedish hardcover version of Peter Temples "Truth", from Kabusa Books.
When designing, anything really, that has three dimensions it is very helpful to have some sort of simple 3D-software that lets you preview the design. I use Box Shot 3D.

From Publishers Weekly:
The death of a nameless prostitute in a glitzy Melbourne high-rise is the first in a series of crimes that Insp. Stephen Villani discovers are all tied to protecting the interests of the city’s elite in this brutal tale of corruption, greed, and revenge from Australian author (and Ned Kelly Award–winner) Temple (The Broken Shore). Burdened by a shaky marriage and an increasingly rebellious teenage daughter while trying to stay afloat in Melbourne’s treacherous political climate, Villani doesn’t know where to turn. The discovery of three savagely tortured men with ties to one of the city’s biggest crime bosses only adds another layer to the already twisted case, and makes Villani question eve-rything he thought he knew about the line between cop and criminal. Temple’s elliptical storytelling—the past and the present are often interchangeable—fits the slippery subject of deeply ingrained police corruption and one man’s determination to uncover the truth.
