FuturAuto, an annual award for innovation given by the Professional Journalists of the Automobile Press (Beroepsjournalisten van de AutomobielPers; BJAP) in Belgium, has been won this year by Saab BioPower.

Saab leads the premium segment in offering a model fuelled by bioethanol, an eco-friendly renewable energy source. The Saab 9-5 2.0t BioPower is not only kinder to the environment, it also produces more power and performance than its gasoline equivalent. It is already an outstanding sales success in Sweden, where more than 5,500 cars have been ordered following its launch last July.

This finding confirms the high level of occupant protection provided by the Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan, which has also received an industry-best five-star rating in the EuroNCAP crash testing.

The ‘Top Safety Pick – Gold Award’ is a best-of-the-best distinction that recognizes car designs that provide the best occupant protection in front, side and rear crashes based on Institute testing.

It seems that VOLVO responding to high fuel rates and traffic problems hitting auto market.

This kind of model was awaited decades from VOLVO, but they’ve come with such offer only now.

Maybe it’s not too late?

A car that is 20 centimeter shorter than today’s S40. It will be called the Volvo C30 and the design is very much inspired by the SCC and the 3CC – two concept cars that have got a lot of credit for their looks.

It may seem like a paradox. The very epitome of light design comes from a part of the world that spend half the year in darkness and the other half in intensive light. Scandinavian design or more correctly Nordic design since Finland is actually not part of Scandinavia is best characterised as simple, light and airy. It has been created by the same people who in the eyes of the world invented melancholy and lead emotional lives worthy an Ingmar Bergman drama.
