Lace

Chairs

Denmark’s GAMplusFRATESI created a beautiful furniture project Lace, a table and chairs made of fibreglass and lace. They said:

“This project is the result of an intense study that embraces tradition as well as advanced technology; an idea that emerged from reflections on contrasts. A fascination of a fusion between high performance composite materials, as glasfiber, and the aesthetics from the antique art of lace. With inspiration from working methods in the textile industry, we have been experimenting with various techniques applicable to the glasfiber. This project is a dialog between many specialized sectors, and different historical references.”. More..

Egg lamp

Filed under: Industrial — Igor Polyakov @ 12:11 am

“egg” – a lamp of combinations to put on the floor, at the table, at a shelf or use it as your dinner table light. “egg”- is a poetic experience of aesthetics and light in harmony.

The idea emerged from playful experiments with function, form and material. Casted porcelain with organic material that leaves traces. Glazed on the inside with a crystalline glaze. Polished on the outside.

Holmegaard were (& still are) the major producers out of Denmark, under the artistic directiion of Per Lutken who was resident designer from 1942 until his death in 1998. The focus was one of simple craftsmen ship with stylish design. Per Lutken designs are largely asymmetrical & driven by function, although Holmegaard reacted well to newer productioin techniques utilising moulds to produce some of the better mould blown pieces of the period.

Detail of bubbles in hand made glass vase. Designed by John Orwar Lake for Ekenas Glasbruk AB Sweden

Ekenas produced glass from 1917 until its closure in 1976 and J. O. Lake was its main designer from 1953 until 1976. Vases and bowls with shading colours of gree/blue and yellow/green/pale blue with internal bubble decoration were probably designed and produced in the 1960′s. This was photographed with diffused sunlight shining through to enhance the bubble structure.

A2ZMpls has added a photo to the pool:

cup and saucerMy cousin from Stavanger gave us six Porsgrund cups and saucers that have designs by Pia Myrvold. Pia was one of her music students, and I believe these are limited editions. This one is the design for November – we have July through December.
