Ralston & Bau is working together with Fretex (norwegian salvation army) to create re-designs made out of their old products. To re-use objects putting them in a new context, makes not only a sustainable impact, it also gives new live to objects that tell a story.

fretex-light.jpg

During the last ReDesign Summer Camp Ralston & Bau made their first redesign series: Tekannelampe (tea pot light) & Ståltrådlysestake (steel wire candle holder). All products are handmade in house.

The “Tekannelampe” is made out of old tea pots, garden pottery, bowls and lamp shades. The cable flows out from the spout, while the handle invites to carry the lamp around.

The “Ståltrådlysestake” is made out of old lamp shades. Only strong lines describe the shape, seeking simplicity.

Author gives away 10,000 copies of his new book for free

International author and speaker, Stefan Engeseth, gives away 10,000 copies of his new book, The Fall of PR and the Rise of Advertising, at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. It is one of the world’s largest book releases with a retail value of €103,600.

In our harsh economic times, it is important to move business forward. That’s why author Stefan Engeseth gives away 10,000 newly printed books at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, taking place June 21–27. A copy of his book will be included in all delegates’ bags. It felt so logical for the author to do this that he also in person will hand out books at the festival. His goal is to raise the economic bar with his book, which is full of creative and inspiring business ideas. It is Engeseth’s dream as an author to reach all the readers who can make a difference, so he will also give away the full book as a free download on his site www.detectivemarketing.com. Isn’t a bit too out-of-the-box to give away 10,000 books? ‘People keep telling me I think outside the box, but I really don’t know what they mean. I’ve never even seen the box,’ says Stefan Engeseth.

Pulseline bookshelf

pulse.jpg

This shelf concept created by Måns Salomonsen, Swedish design student on Stenebyskolan, under the Gothenburg University.

Måns says about it:

It’s obvious to see where I got my inspiration from, the heartbeat. The shape was of particular interest to me and I wanted to create a piece of furniture from it. I wanted to create something out of a common shape that everyone knows and can relate to. The shelf is a mix of wall art, just as a showoff object in itself. And it is good as storage for some magazines that you like and also provide some flat areas where you can display objects, for example a photo frame or a small sculpture. The thin side surface is painted with fluorescent paint that glows in the dark and creates a shining “pulse-line”.

Hope to get it produced soon..

Swedish Traditions in April

Filed under: Sweden — Igor Polyakov @ 9:15 pm

This is a short version – please see www.swedishdetails.com for more April-traditions.

1:a april / April Fool’s Day The first of April is April Fool’s Day and time for the traditional Aprilskämt (April jokes). This is the day when you try to fool your friends and relatives. It is very common for TV and newspapers to compete for the best fake news story of the day. After having fooled someone, the tradition is to chant April, april – din dumma sill! Jag kan lura dig vart jag vill! (April, April – you stupid herring – I can fool you wherever I want). And then you know you have been fooled.

Påsk / Easter Skärtorsdagen / Maundy Thursday Maundy Thursday is the first day of Easter. The preparations start days in advance, with Swedes buying påskris. Påskris are twigs from the birch tree with colorful feathers attached to the ends (looks a bit like a huge bunch of flowers). The påskris are bought days in advance to allow the leaves to bloom fully at the Easter dinner table.

Påskafton / Easter Saturday During the entire Easter weekend, mass quantities of delicious food is consumed. On the Easter table, boiled eggs served with different kinds of caviar, herring of many sorts, and pickled salmon are a must. At dinner time, lamb roast is a common dish. It is on Påskafton that the stuffed Easter eggs are handed out. They are mostly made out of paper and are filled with candy. It is a newer tradition that the adults hide the Easter eggs from the children so that they have to look for them. Påskafton is usually celebrated with friends and family.

Påskdagen / Easter Day The food consumption continues on Påskdagen with both left overs from the big lunch and the yummy Easter eggs.

Annandag påsk / Easter Monday Annandag påsk is also a bank holiday. This is the day when most Swedes spend a quiet day at home after an intense weekend with family and friends.

Valborgsmässoafton / Walpurgis night On the night of April 30th, it is time to celebrate Walpurgis. On Walpulgis, all Swedes celebrate that spring has finally arrived. Regardless of whether there is snow on the ground, this day is important and never forgotten. The Swedes have longed for more light during the long winter period – and finally it is here! At night, bonfires are lit all over the country and people gather around these fires.

Kungens Födelsedag / The Birthday of the Swedish King On April 30th Sweden proudly flies their flag at full mast to celebrate the
