  • I was recently in Copenhagen, where I took a sneak peek at the Coffee Collective’s new coffee bar in Torvehallerne, a gastro-complex of modernist glass sheds that opened last week. Copenhagen’s amenities might be the envy of the civilized world — that airport, those parks, a network of bike paths so comprehensive and easy to use that cars are almost pointless — but until Torvehallerne, the city didn’t have a central food hall.

  • The Night of the Arts takes over Helsinki for the 23rd time on 26 August. Audiences will again be treated to new art and new experiences that they can enjoy both as spectators and as active participants. What is so unique about the Night of the Arts is the way it allows visitors to leap from one atmosphere to another, from the calm of an art gallery to an exuberant world music concert or from a dusky park to a poetry fashion show or media art display. The programme lists all the events taking place on the night. We suggest that you try to resist the temptation to draw up a detailed timetable and instead let the events lead you – take time to wander and wonder.
  • The Helsinki Festival is the largest arts festival in Finland, organised annually in late summer. The festival's aim is to make art accessible for all.- The Helsinki Festival is arranged this year from August 19 to September 4.- The Night of the Arts is arranged on the 26th of August 2011.- In 2010 The Helsinki Festival ran from August 20 to September 5.- In 2010, the festival had a total of 261,000 visitors.
